Look what we built this month.
Since the middle of September we have shipped something new almost every day. Most of it came straight from you: engineers, voice artists and agencies telling us what slowed them down.
Here it all is in one place. There is nothing to install or update. Open the desk and it is already there.
The big ones
Make a take longer or shorter without changing the voice. A 32-second read that has to be 30? Right-click it, choose Stretch to… and type 30. Or hold ⌥ and drag the end of the take. We tested engines blind on real ads and voice-overs and picked the one nobody could hear. Reset brings the original back any time.
Press Deliver (or ⌘E) and one window does it all. Pick what goes out (the whole project, a selection, segments, stems or the video), the format (WAV or MP3, and loudness for broadcast, podcasts or streaming) and where it goes (download, email your client, send a link). Tick as many as you like, then press one button.
Send big files to anyone with one link, like WeTransfer but inside your studio. Up to 2 GB a send on Artist, 10 GB on Studio and 50 GB on Agency, kept for 7, 30 or 90 days. My sends shows every link and how many times it was downloaded.
See the plansLoad one video or several, cut them up, and every spot keeps its own audio underneath. Click a clip and everyone in the session jumps to that spot. When you are done, export each spot as an MP4 with your new mix on it.
Record over part of a take and the old read is kept underneath, so you can pick the best one later. Press ⌘K, drag the red strip over the line and press R: the desk plays a run-up, records only inside the red, plays out and stops. One button sets the run-up, the run-out and how loud the old read plays under you while you record.
Put your DAW in the room. Your client hears Logic Pro or Pro Tools in stereo, live in the session, while your artist reads. Included with Studio and Agency.
Get the BridgeSessions with clients and talent
- Chat with the room. Message your guests, drop a file or a take into the chat, and turn a file a guest sends you into a track with one click.
- Your client can share their screen. Only you see it, and you can stop it.
- Who's in the room. The desk tells you when someone leaves and when they are back.
- No old take in your ears. Recording over a take no longer plays the old one under you, unless you ask for it.
- Two-input guests. Input 2 on a guest's interface now records clean.
- Back up with a real name. Back up as… saves your session as "BMW Radio Ad.sessionplug", not a string of numbers.
Mixing
- Pan works live. What you hear while you play and record is panned the same way as your bounce.
- Fader groups. Select a few channels, move one fader and they all move together.
- Reorder tracks. Drag any track up or down.
- Crossfades are on. Overlap two regions and they blend.
Editing
- Copy, cut, paste, duplicate. ⌘C, ⌘X, ⌘V and ⌘D on regions. B splits at the cursor.
- Shuffle mode. Press the ⇆ button and pulling a region out closes the gap behind it.
- Pro Tools mode keys. F1, F2 and F4 switch edit modes, and the desk shows you which one you are in.
- A grid you set. Frames or milliseconds, and it holds at every zoom.
- Click anywhere. A click puts the cursor there, even on a region. A drag edits.
- New track by dragging. Drop a take below your last track and it gets its own track.
- One Import button. Audio and video both go in the same way.
- Every shortcut. Press ? to see them all, with a sheet you can print.
What we're building next
- Sessions, like Logic: every session gets its own takes, starting at Take 1, and in Chrome its own folder on your Mac.
- Cloud sessions: your sessions saved online, so you can open them on any computer.
- Takes that land in your DAW at the right spot, straight from the Bridge.
- Very long recordings, for podcasts and audiobooks.
- A de-esser and reverb, built into the desk.
- Volume automation: draw the level of a take right on the timeline.
- Lessons: a short course that teaches the whole desk, back soon and better.
